Staff Spotlight: Meet Marc!

Hi – I’m Marc!

I would describe myself as an introvert and a homebody. I love spending time at home alone with my Goldendoodle, Kali. We do occasionally go for small hikes, as she loves to explore. I am the Outreach and Community Services Manager here at Pathways Vermont. I am responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of programs that bring a wide range of community-based services to individuals and families across Vermont. My total time with Pathways has been a little over five years, but I have recently returned to this new role a little over two months ago.

Since returning to Pathways, my focus has been on getting to know my team, catching up on reporting requirements, and finding ways to improve how we structure services for our clients. This includes clearly outlining their needs and defining action steps for both staff and participants.

Right now, I oversee the Pathways Rural Outreach Program & Services (PROPS) team, which connects Vermonters experiencing homelessness with service coordination support, existing resources, and benefits to help them meet their needs and improve their lives. Our outreach efforts focus on individuals with serious mental health challenges or co-occurring SMI and substance use. I also manage our rapid rehousing program, which helps individuals quickly transition from homelessness to permanent housing. Once housed, we provide ongoing support to help them identify and overcome barriers while working toward long-term stability and sustainability. The last program I support is our Community Center, which offers peer support to individuals in the community. We also provide various peer-facilitated support groups, both in-person and virtually.

What inspires me about Pathways’ mission to end homelessness is the organization’s determination. We may be a relatively small organization, but the impact we have across the state is huge, especially in providing vital mental health services. Pathways is always evolving, pushing itself to improve both for the people it serves and for its staff. What brought me back was the mission. I missed being a part of an organization that truly believes housing is a basic human right and takes real steps to make it a reality for those experiencing homelessness.

My most memorable experience with Pathways was the day I initially interviewed to work here with my supervisor, Lindsay Mesa. I remember walking into the Pathways office on College Street and immediately noticing how warm and welcoming it felt. But what really stuck with me was the interview itself—the questions weren’t just about my skills but about social justice and how my own lived experience with mental health challenges could be seen as a strength in this organization. That perspective was so refreshing, and I knew right then that this was where I needed to be.

My biggest motivation for coming to work every day is the people I work with. When you work with a group of passionate, authentic individuals like I do, it’s easy to find the motivation to do this work.
